Ceramics, glaze, underglaze, many, many hours of love. 21.5″Hx20″Wx20″D

The ceramic figures in the boat resulted from a reflection during our art experience when I asked Adrian, Maya, and Rhett to imagine a superhero who could make our world a better place to live. That was the genesis of Iceflame to fight against all the methane and excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere; Planet Superhero to recycle and keep Earth green and oceans clean; and Blue LED to fight against any harmful and mean person.

I depicted Planet Savior as a Mexican wrestler with anatomic Olmec features to embody the intangible cultural heritage of Mexico. But, even further, Planet Savior represents all who feel empowered to do what is right anywhere and anytime for the good of all living creatures in our mutual home called Planet Earth.

“Artists are those who dare to create the reality in which they need to live,” the Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano once said.

I need to build a reality where all living species are treated with the same respect, compassion, and empathy without discriminating by size, color, or number of cells. Perhaps, naively, human, animal, and environmental justice are only one in the peaceful universe I dream of.
